Brooklyn, NY Resident Maya Gilbert Receives $10,000 Grand Prize Check as the
National Winner of the BKFK 'Mind Your Own Business' Challenge
"Surprise Industries" innovative business idea wins top prize in national
BKFK MYOB Challenge. Maya Gilbert, 20, meets with Deputy Editor, Senior Editor
and Publicity Coordinator from Time Out New York
Stamford, CT (January 22, 2009) – By Kids For Kids (BKFK) announced today that
Maya Gilbert, 20, of Brooklyn, NY, was awarded a check for $10,000 as the Grand
Prize Winner of the BKFK Mind Your Own Business Challenge, "BKFK MYOB
Challenge." The BKFK MYOB Challenge was a national contest designed to discover
America's hottest new entrepreneurial concept created by a girl. The awards
ceremony took place last Tuesday in the Manhattan offices of Time Out New York
magazine. Maya Gilbert's "Connection to Reality" prize was the opportunity to
meet Billie Cohen, Deputy Editor of Time Out New York, and her team.

Ms. Gilbert won the top BKFK MYOB prize for her innovative new business concept,
"Surprise Industries" (SurpriseIndustries.com), a web-based business providing
surprise "experiences" in the NYC area. Adventure seekers thirsting for new
horizons pay $25 and enter basic information, such as their zip code and the
distance they would be willing to travel, in order to receive a randomly chosen
experience. Experiences range from a deep tissue massage to a glass blowing
class or fire eating contest.
"I am so excited to win the BKFK MYOB Challenge!" said Maya Gilbert, "What could
be more fun than being in the business of providing new experiences which add
color and excitement to life? There will be no way for our customers to guess
what their experience will be in advance, and whether it might be worth $5 or
$100, but in any case, they are sure to discover new places, people, activities,
and maybe even a new life passion."
Norman Goldstein, the founder and CEO of BKFK, commenting on Maya Gilbert's
award said: "Consumers will always be willing to pay a premium for live
experiences, even in a down economy. Maya's company throws in an element of
surprise, creating a new dimension in experiential marketing, sure to delight
experience providers and consumers alike."
BKFK currently has another national competition in play, the Invent-A-Game
Challenge, sponsored by Best Buy. The Grand Prize Winner of the Invent-A-Game
Challenge will receive a $10,000 US Savings Bond, and the opportunity to have
their video game produced and distributed freely for the world to play by EA.

Note to editors:
A sophomore in college, 20-year-old Maya is passionate about communication and
discovering what different minds can create together. She loves psychology,
theories of education, and functional design. Once she receives her B.A., she
plans to apply to the Positive Organizational Psychology doctorate program, one
that perfectly aligns with her philosophy and values. For Maya, inspiration for
new ideas can come from anywhere, whether through conversation, dreams, or while
reading. Both of her parents - innovative individuals who encouraged Maya to
have an inquisitive mind - have their own businesses and, from a very early age,
this shaped Maya's understanding of how work should be. The word "entrepreneur"
very well would have been her first word if it wasn't quite so long.
