Of the 2008 New York Challenge
Teen in New York Wins BKFK Statewide Competition for
Innovative Sports Product
(New York, NY)- June 12, 2008 – By Kids For Kids (BKFK), the youth creativity
specialist, announced yesterday, from the show floor of the Licensing
International Expo 2008, the statewide winner of the 2008 New York Challenge.
Youth from across the state of New York were challenged to enter their ideas in
four categories: Going Green, Signature Style, Sports Evolution and Digital
Arts. The top entry from across the four categories was honored at today's award
ceremony.
13-year-old
Sara Berg-Love, won the top prize from the
Sports Evolution category. The Loudonville resident won for her "Volleyball Pass
Back" invention.
During the winter, Sara played on her Volleyball team. Wanting to squeeze in
additional practice time at home, she ran into a bit of a hurdle by not having
anyone else to practice with. This is precisely where she saw an opportunity.
Sara sought a new way of practicing in her home, without the need for a partner.
She came up with the idea for a backboard that is complementary to the
Volleyball net. It is made up of different materials that bounce the ball back
at different angles every time, really honing the player's reflexes.
Norman Goldstein, the Founder and CEO of BKFK commented: "I would like to
congratulate Sara for her outstanding creative achievement in the Sports
Evolution category of the 2008 New York Challenge! The 'Volleyball Pass Back' is
a great invention- holding the potential to revolutionize Volleyball practice in
the future."
As the first place winner, Sara Berg-Love was presented with a new laptop and a
trophy. Though winning this New York competition, Sara is still eligible to
compete in the national versions of the competitions, where the grand prize
winners of each category will receive $10,000 and unique "connections to
reality." Presenting sponsors of the statewide competitions in New York include:
Edison Venture Fund, and The United Inventors Association (UIA), Participating
sponsors include: Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP.
