Ideation Tips: Invent a Sport or a Sporting Good
Want to start building your own new Sport or Sporting good? Let’s plan out to have you all set for the game! Here’s a list of To-Dos to help you get started with your idea.

Step 1. Do Your Research: You can create an entirely new sport or identify your favorite ones that you can build and improve. Whatever you choose, the more research you do, the easier it is to work on your idea.

o Find out all details that make them your favorite sports; different places, times, seasons etc.
o Figure out what’s missing and what you can build to make it quicker, easier, more extreme, bigger or portable!

Step 2. Define Your Creation: You can draw or sketch your idea or even make up a set of rules of engagement if that will add to the fun. Answer these questions to organize your thoughts.
Douglas won $10,000 for his Sports Evolution Invention

Douglas created a sitting or kneeling version of a skateboard, the Roller Boggin. Read more about his winning idea.

o What is it going to look like?
o Can everyone use it?
o Is there a target age range?
o Does it need directions or rules? What are they?
o Do you need safety gear?
o Do you use it with something else or on its own?

Step 3. Before you start building your idea ask yourself some additional questions. You will want to think about how you are going to build a prototype.

o What materials is it made of?
o What are the parts and pieces?
o Is it portable? Should it be?

Step 4. Test It: Get thoughts and reactions to understand if your idea really works.
o Does it work?
o Is it fun?
o Will people like it and buy it?
