Boogie2Boogie
Inventors: Alyssa, Amy,
Nick & Kaycee
Invented at age: 10 - 12
They had a problem: Boogie Boards were not well designed
for kids. They wanted a body board that was great for
riding in the breakers near the shore, where kids liked
to ride!
They had an idea: To create a Boogie Board that had a
functional shape, that was fun to use and appealed to
kids. They enjoyed "surfing" together and came
up with a connector to attach each board to the other
so they could ride together. Also, for parents who wanted
a way of getting children's attention when it was time
to come in, the kids came up with a remote signaling device
so that parents could signal them from shore.
They
developed it: The kids came up with the boomerang shaped
design which was both fun and aerodynamic. Their parents
along with local body boarding professionals encouraged
them as they built a prototype out of Polyethylene, rubber
leashes and Velcro.
The idea was a hit: They won first place in the Sally
Ride National Toy Challenge, after winning best engineering
& best overall invention in regional competition.
