Isaac Asimov

Writer Extraordinaire

  • Isaac Asimov wrote nearly 350 books. And he started when he was 11 years old!
  • He was born in Russia in 1920 to Orthodox Jewish family. They moved to the United States in 1923.
  • He could read by the time he was four years old! His mother changed his birth certificate in order to get him into school early.
  • He read anything and everything he could get his hands on, taking books out from the library because they could not afford to buy new books for him.
  • His parents owned a candy store in Brooklyn, New York.
  • When he was 11, he wrote his first short story. He submitted it and many others to Amazing Stories and Astounding Stories magazines. Over the next 7 years, his stories were rejected over and over again.
  • Finally, when he was 18, he broke through and his first story was published.
  • He is an American Writer who started as a kid, and his persistence paid off!
