Underwater X-treme
Inventor: California Aquatics (Alyssa,
Amy, Brittany, Josh, Kara, Kaycee, Matt & Nick)
Invented at ages: 12-14
They had a problem: There are not many pool toys out
there for older kids and everyone cheats at Marco Polo.
Nobody likes to buy lots of pieces to play different games
and parents do not like toys that take up to much space
in the garage.
They had an idea: Create the Underwater X-treme, a cool
new pool toy for kids their age.
The Underwater X-treme is a new kind of pool toy that
features sound and bright, blinking red lights.
They
developed it: To make it more challenging to find the
toy in the pool, they created a pair of goggles that will
block the red light unless you are looking directly at
it.
Underwater X-treme comes in 2 sizes; the UX can be clipped
to your swimsuit for some games or tossed in the pool
for others. The larger UXX features multiple light patterns
and is great for playing group games. The UX comes with
a game book that includes individual and group games,
finding games, tag-type games and racing games. You can
play with just one UX, or use multiple UX packs to play
even more games. Games can be played in the water or on
land. The UX can be played with lights only, sound only,
both lights and sound, or with both turned off.
The idea was a hit: In June 2005, the UX tied for first
place in the National Toy challenge in Rhode Island. The
team also appeared on NBC.
