Hop To It
Inventors: Kelly, Chrissy, and Karen
Invented at age: 11&14
They had a problem: These sisters wanted to create a
fun game that wasn’t the “same old”
jump rope that their parents played. Jump rope was a boring
old fashioned game and the sisters wanted to play something
more challenging and exciting.
They had an idea: Create “Hop to It”, the
21st century game of jump rope.
They
developed it: The infrared sensors are mounted on a turntable
and rotate around in a circle at a speed determined by
the players. When a player doesn’t jump high enough
or at just the right time, the sensors detect human heat
and activate the voice alarm. The players can prerecord
messages on the recorder to make the game really fun.
Features of Hop to It include:
- One player or multiple players
- Multiple levels of difficulty
- Voice messages can be customized
There are three games:
- Leapfrog- two teams play against each other
- You Croaked- two players or more
- Croaking A Cappella- singe player
The idea was a hit: Won first place at the National Toy
challenge at Hasbro Headquarters in Rhode Island. They
appeared in: The Daily Press and Argus, The Pawtucket
Times and The Detroit News.
