First American Woman Inventor, created a new method
of making corn using hammers instead of grinding wheels to make
hominy meal from Indian maize. She called the corn meal Tuscarora rice.

Sybilla Masters had to hand carry her
patent application to England in 1712. She had to wait 3 years
for the application to be reviewed but she eventually got it!

However, it was in her husband's name because
women were not allowed to have patents in their own name.
