Safety Cap
-
Kavita invented a lab safety device for bottles containing
hazardous materials when she was 13 after watching her mother forget to put the
gas cap back on after getting gas at the gas station.
-
She later
received a Lemelson-MIT High School Invention Apprenticeship for
her research linking fenugreek (an herb) with preserving fruit
and vegetables.
-
She was
inspired while visiting her grandmother in Bhopal, India
where tap water has a lot of bacteria which can make you very
sick. She drank some and her grandmother gave her fenugreek to
stop her from getting sick. Eventually her research led to
packaging paper with preservative properties.
