Innovation: Acid Rain Cloud Seeding
Name:
Edward
Age:
12

While in science class, Edward was studying the environment and ecosystems, and one of the topics they learned about was acid rain and its effect on the world. This is when he knew he had to do something to help with this problem. His idea came to him while reading an article on cloud seeding for the 2008 Olympics, the idea of seeding bases into clouds to prevent acid rain.

By using appropriate bases as cloud seed chemicals, the acid in the clouds can be neutralized and the destructive effects of acid rain would decrease. Currently he is working on specifics of the cloud seeding process, such as an appropriate chemical deployment system.

Bianca, 18, won 2nd place for her invention of Bag It.

Laura, 12, won 3rd place for her creative fashion line “Modest Clothing”

Nominated Teacher:

The winners also had the opportunity to select a teacher or mentor that was instrumental in their innovation process. Edward nominated his teacher Mrs. Fairbairn as the person who inspired his invention.
