By Kids For Kids Awarded Maryland State Proclamation for Supporting Gifted and Talented Education
Company directors and kid inventors recognized for their business and community contributions
STAMFORD, CT - March 5, 2007 - By Kids For Kids Company (“BKFK”) is delighted to announce that the Company has received State acclaim in Maryland for their work supporting gifted and talented education. BKFK Founder and CEO Norman Goldstein, COO Daniel Gwartz and Dr. Christine Casey, Director of Education Initiatives at BKFK all received awards, signed by Senator Ulysses Currie for their part in “Business and Community Partnerships that Support Gifted and Talented Education.” The four winners of BKFK’s “Cool School Tools” competition last year also received “Student Achievement in Gifted Education” Awards. These talented kids are: Emily Staudmyer, Eric Birckelbaw, Caitlyn Evans, and Brenda Santiago.
The Awards were presented to By Kids For Kids on February 27, 2007 during a ceremony in Annapolis before an audience which included 15 members of the Maryland state legislature. BKFK was nominated for these awards by the Maryland State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education, appointed by State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick. “The By Kids For Kids team is as passionate as we are about inspiring and educating kids, and their ‘Inventive Thinking’ educational program has been extremely well received in schools from all populations across Maryland,” commented Jeanne Paynter, Ed.D, Specialist for Gifted and Talented Education, Maryland State Department of Education.
BKFK plans to build on their successful “Inventive Thinking” initiative in Maryland with their 2nd annual statewide student invention competition, the Get Your Head In The Game Sports Invention Challenge. The competition seeks the best new ideas for sports and sporting goods. Entries are now being accepted on the BKFK website at www.bkfk.com/mdchallenge. The deadline for all submissions is April 27, 2007. View press release here: http://www.bkfk.com/corporate/013007headinthegame.asp
Several teachers were also honored for their work with the BKFK-Maryland “Inventive Thinking” program, and for inspiring the winners of BKFK’s invention competitions. These dedicated educators include; Tracy Travers, Denise Grote, Joyce Campbell, Regina Jewer, Ainsley Connor, and Nicole Gavin. “It has been great to work with the top-flight teachers and educators of Maryland, as together we have been able to spark the much-needed interest in STEM learning,” said Dr. Casey. “With the right tools and support, kids really have a chance to shine, and these awards are a testament to that.”
Norman Goldstein, Founder and CEO of By Kids for Kids, added: “The By Kids For Kids team would like to congratulate everyone that received awards for their work in gifted and talented education, and we look forward to meeting many more of Maryland’s star kids during the Get Your Head In The Game Sports Invention Challenge.
