BKFK and Xerox Launch National Invention Competition
and First-Ever Chester Award

Columbus Day Kick-Off Targets Innovative Kid Inventors and Honors the Founder of Xerography

(STAMFORD, Conn.) Oct. 11, 2004 – By Kids For Kids Co. and Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) launched today an invention competition that encourages kids to turn their big ideas into blockbuster consumer products for sale at major retail outlets across the country. On the day that celebrates Columbus’ discovery of America, Xerox and BKFK are setting out to discover America’s most talented young inventors.

The first-ever “Chester Award” will be given to young inventors whose innovations offer the greatest potential for mass marketing and consumer appeal.

The award is named after Chester Carlson, the inventor of xerography, which launched the copier, laser printers and remains the technological foundation of digital printing today.  As a youth, Chester Carlson was always toying with and testing new ideas.  His passion for creativity and exploration lives on through Xerox’s investments in innovation and support of the invention competition.

The competition, open to kids between ages 5 and 19, seeks innovative ideas for toys, games, sporting goods and other products created by kids for other kids.  Winners of this competition will see their inventions brought into the marketplace.

“This contest celebrates the innovative spirit of Chester Carlson and the enterprising minds of children everywhere,” said Anne M. Mulcahy, Xerox chairman and chief executive officer.  “Together with By Kids For Kids, we’re harnessing the creative energy of our youths and inspiring ‘eureka’ moments that can change how we work, play and live.”

“Kids are more capable of fresh, less inhibited idea generation without the imposition of traditional boundaries.  In fact, BKFK has already launched kid-invented products under its brand name that will be available at retailers including Wal-Mart this fall,” said Norman Goldstein, BKFK founder and chief executive officer. “With this contest, we’re giving kids an outlet to make their dreams a reality.”

The Chester Award winners will receive a licensing contract from BKFK, legal support to patent the invention (if patentable), professional expertise to bring the product to market, and approximately $1,000 worth of Xerox technology.  Winners will also name a supporting teacher to receive a $1,000 prize value.

The number of grand-prize winners will be determined by the marketability of the submissions. There will be 10,000 second place winners who will each receive a T-shirt.

A panel of industry experts including professionals in patenting, marketing, licensing and merchandising, will evaluate submissions.

There is no fee to enter the competition.   Interested kid inventors must submit their invention ideas through the BKFK Web site at www.bkfk.com no later than Dec. 15, 2004.

Winners will be announced at The International Licensing Show in June 2005.
