BKFK CO. LAUNCHES “COOL SCHOOL TOOLS” INVENTION COMPETITION IN MARYLAND

Stamford, Conn., December 19, 2005 BKFK Company (BKFK) announced today “The Cool School Tools Challenge,” a statewide invention competition for Maryland’s youth. Themed Cool School Tools, the challenge invites young inventors to submit their ideas for innovative new school tools or supplies.

The competition aims to inspire, support and celebrate the abundant creative potential of ALL Maryland kids. The Cool School Tools Challenge is open to all residents of Maryland in grades K-12 in public, private or home schools. Kids are invited to submit their “Cool School Tools” (specifically, school related ideas, products, supplies and innovations) and the best ideas will be recognized and rewarded. All submissions must be received no later than midnight EST March 5, 2006. Entries are accepted only through the BKFK website, the largest repository of inventing resources for kids in the world. http://www.bkfk.com/mdchallenge.

Winners will receive national acclaim, a licensing contract from BKFK, legal support to patent the invention (if patentable), a $1,000 Savings Bond (value at maturity), professional expertise to bring the product to market, and a sponsors prize package. The winners will also select a teacher or mentor that was instrumental in their invention process to receive a $500 savings bond.

Winners will be announced at a special “BKFK Inventor Day” with the Baltimore Orioles at the Camden Yard ballpark in the spring. They will be able to throw out the first pitch at the game. 5,000 participants in the competition will receive a t-shirt just for entering. All participants benefit because the experience of inventing builds confidence, problem-solving skills and self esteem.

“We are thrilled to launch the second phase of our Maryland Educational Initiative with the “Cool School Tools” Competition,” said Norman Goldstein, Founder and CEO of BKFK, “We’re extremely confident that the kids of Maryland will produce some great inventions!”

“Phase One” was the statewide launch of the BKFK Inventive Thinking Toolkit on Sept. 22. The “Toolkit,” designed to teach inventive thinking skills, is now in use throughout Maryland’s school system. The Inventive Thinking Toolkit was developed with the cooperation of the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is aligned to National Education Standards, Maryland Education Standards and the No Child Left Behind Act. The Toolkit is downloadable free of charge at http://www.bkfk.com/maryland/.

Presenting Sponsors of The Maryland Challenge include the Baltimore Orioles, St. John Properties and Tessco. Participating sponsors include the Baltimore Ravens, the Daily Record, and Whiteford Taylor & Preston LLC.
